Germany Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte)
The Opportunity Card can allow eligible third-country nationals to enter Germany to look for qualified employment. There are two access routes: direct access for recognised skilled workers and a points-based route for applicants who meet the basic qualification and language conditions.
Two ways to qualify
- Direct route for a skilled worker whose German or foreign qualification is recognised/comparable as required
- Points route for applicants with an accepted foreign qualification plus the required language baseline and at least the required number of points
Language baseline for the points route
For the points route, the official baseline is generally at least German A1 or English B2, alongside the qualifying foreign credential. Higher language levels and other factors can contribute points.
Job search and work
The initial job-search Opportunity Card can be issued for up to 12 months. Limited employment and trial work are permitted within the conditions of the card while the holder searches for qualified employment.
